What is Iyengar Yoga?

Iyengar Yoga is a paced systematic method of Yoga designed by Yogacharya Sri B.K.S. Iyengar. This way of practicing brings attention to alignment and posture and employs the use props to help students of all abilities to access the benefits of the practice. Benefits include, mobility, flexibility, strength, mindfulness.

Beginners and more experienced practitioners are all welcome to join the class. Each class will start with time to settle, a programme of asana (yoga postures) and then relaxation. Periodically we will practice and learn basic pranayama (breathing techniques).

Please bring a yoga mat to class and if you have any yoga equipment (blocks, bricks, belts etc) please bring them too.

Stars BIO

Qualifying and teaching Iyengar Yoga since 2010, Star teaches classes for businesses, sports centres and in studios and halls in Bournemouth and Christchurch. Star brings her experience and understanding of the Iyengar method as passed on by Sri B.K.S. Iyengar to the Iyengar teaching community. Practicing yoga for over 20 years and teaching for nearly 10 years, Star has experience of teaching people of all abilities and can guide people in their practice at their own pace, using equipment to help them achieve aligned posture and become more aware of their own bodies.

Star’s passion for Iyengar Yoga stems from the inner awareness that arises from the practice of physical asana (Yoga poses). Working with the alignment of the physical postures sets up a mindful communication with the body, and as we listen and respond to the balance of that conversation each pose can become a meditation.
